How about some Southern Hemisphere wines? Or something Moroccan?? Or all of the above?

Wine School Highlights This Week: Southern Hemisphere and Moroccan Esoterica!

We have some great wines to explore this week. I really take my time to find wines for Wine School that are fun, different and interesting. Nothing run-of-the-mill here. As always, I love your input whether it’s about wine we’ve poured or ideas for future Wine School events. Next week will include one brown-bagged wine. You will use the power of your senses to figure out appellation and varietal. I promise you will get it and I know you will have a blast deciphering.

Here’s the line-up:

Lawson’s Dry Hills 2015 Sauvignon Blanc ~ Marlborough, New ZealandWho doesn’t love a sleek SB from NZ? Packed with tropical fruit and hints of lime, this wine has gorgeous acidity and a juicy finish. I’m wondering which cheese we will have with it.

Bodega Garzon 2014 Tannat ~ Uruguay. What’s not to like? We all know that Tannat is to Uruguay like Malbec is to Argentina; let’s explore this beauty together. Rich, textured, elegant. Nicely aged for 8 months in French oak. Easily quaffed and savored.

The wine I am the most excited about? A Moroccan red blend that’s supple, seductive, beguiling and downright fabulous.

Ouled Thaleb 2013 Signature Red Blend ~ Morocco. Wow. Who knew that Morocco made such great wine? This stunner is from a vineyard perched 300 feet above sea level on the Atlantic coast of Morocco. 50% Marselan, 35% Petit Verdot and 15% Carmenere 100% interesting.

What better way to spend a Wednesday evening? Wine always seems to make things better and learning about wine is even more fun. I’m looking forward to a fun night tomorrow evening, Wednesday, April 12th. See you at 8 pm. $15 covers all 3 wines along with some cheese, some education, and a good time.
